Vilkettä ja tajunnanvirtaa @ Kerava Art Museum 17.9.-13.10.2013

VILKE is a new collection of Finnish media art started by the FixC artist co-operative.

Cannapaceus, the demo that won the demo competition at Stream08 by mfx which features the song Heliosis by Grey Park as the soundtrack, has been taken to the collection. This maybe makes it the first demoscene work to be accepted to an art collection (if someone knows any other demos in art collections, please inform me, there has been demos shown at museums before but I haven't heard of any collection acquisitions). Besides demoscene  context Cannapaceus has been publicly shown at some media art events & exhibitions, most notably at the Ars Electronica festival in 2009.

Cannapaceus is the first part of a trilogy that explores audiovisual noise through real-time visuals, second part being Cognoscere and Catharsis is the final part. Through to the nature of the visuals in the demos it is preferred that they be watched in realtime but there's also youtube/vimeo versions of them. Take note that video codecs do not work well with compressing noise so there tend to be a lot of compression artifacts. Lossless videos do exist, but are unfortunately not availble online right no, maybe sometime later again(a lossless fullhd video at 25fps from these demos takes a bit over 30gigs per demo...)

The first public showing of the collection will be the Vilkettä ja tajunnanvirtaa () exhibition at Kerava Art Museum Opening party of the exhibition will be held 17.9. from 18-20, with performance by Koelse which should make it an interesting evening.
The exhibition will continue until 13.10.2013, a good reason to take a trip to Kerava and see their art museums new space where they moved in early 2012.
Among mfx the exhibition features a good selection of Finnish artists, Maria Duncker, Juha van Ingen, Sami van Ingen & Petri Kuljuntausta, Philip von Knorring, Laura Könönen, Pekka Nevalainen, Erkka Nissinen, Marjatta Oja, Seppo Renvall, Jarkko Räsänen, Pekka Sassi, Alli Savolainen, Mika Taanila, Jimi Tenor, Marko Vuokola, Kari Yli-Annala, Denise Ziegler

There's also an FB-event here

(btw. that heliosis 7" is still available from grey park)
